A Tale of Two Hats and A Triangle

This is the new hat I made for Martin. I gave it to him when he came over Saturday afternoon( 02/18/2017). Grandma and Grandpa babysat while Mama and Daddy went out for a belated Valentine’s Day date.

I don't have a baby/toddler size foam head. This is why the hat looks so small.

I was also able to add some more rows to the triangle shawl. I took some new photos so as to compare with the last ones.

Pattern Used: Simple Triangle Shawl By: Sharon Maher from Laughing Purple Goldfish Designs

The top side measures 58 inches. So all in all I have added almost 5 inches to each side.I am now out of scrap balls again. I was thinking it may be big enough now. I was thinking to single crochet one or two rows across the top and one row of single crochet along the sides. Then add some type of border to the sides then add fringe. I have left over fringe from all the scarves I have made, I always cut to many. ๐Ÿ˜€

So what do you think should I trim it up now or add some more rows when I get some more scraps?

A Lovely Day for Hats Photo Shoot

It was so nice yesterday, I decided to do a photo shoot for two new hats. There was just enough breeze to play with my hair, no wind machines needed. lol I used my usual backgrounds of the two trees and the bush. Today though I decided to use BOB as a background he was getting lonely as no one visited him all this winter.:P

First up is a pale yellow and dayglow stripe skull cap of my own design. The photos framed in yellow are my favorite and were used in its Ebay listing.

Can You Top Hat?

I was looking at free patterns on redheart.com many months ago, when I came across this top hat pattern. I thought it was pretty cool, so I put it on my to crochet in the future list. The pattern called for two strands held together. I had a Jumbo skein of black but did not want to wind a separate ball to do the pattern. I also had few other projects already going. I didn’t need to start another one until I got one of the others done.

While visiting my favorite used store, The Senior Citizen’s Garage Sale, I found a 7 oz. skein of Super Saver in the same black I already had at home. I was getting closer to having all the yarn colors. The pattern also called for white, to do a herringbone hat band, but that involved doing one stitch black, one stitch white to get the herringbone pattern. I don’t care for doing that, plus it was done in rows of only 10 stitches. That would have driven me crazy getting it long enough to go around the hat then seaming the ends together. Well the crochet gods were looking favorably down on me. While I was in Wal-Mart shopping one afternoon, I found this lovely variegated skein of Super Saver in Zebra!

I thought it would work great as the color for the top hat’s band. Now that I had all the proper yarns I could start it at any time. So after I finished Nick’s Creeper I set to work on it. I am quite happy with the final results. ๐Ÿ˜€

Kayโ€™s Mrs. Claus Hat

Last year I made Martin and Justin Santa Hats.

(I altered the pattern for Martin’s Hat as follows:
Chained 6 for brim sc in 2nd chain from hook and each stitch across ch 1, turn ( 5 )
Row 2: ch 1, sc in back loops only across ch 1 repeat until piece measured 14 inches. Slip stitched ends together to form loop for brim.
For the Hat I did Rounds 1 and and 2 of pattern.
Round 3 because of the smaller size was 50 stitches.
Skipped to Round 9 of pattern and continued through pattern to finish.)
I asked Kay if she would like one too. She said that she needed to have a Mrs. Clause Hat. I had already made a hat that I thought the pattern would make a perfect Mrs. Claus hat. I showed that hat to Kay.

She said, โ€œThat would work great in red and white of course. Oh, and I want a pom-pom on the top.โ€

So this is what I came up with.๐Ÿ™‚
